Con Air (1997)

Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage), a highly decorated U.S. Army Ranger, was going to go home in Alabama, when he got into a fight with three drunken bar’s customers, while trying to defend his pregnant wife, Tricia (Monica Potter). Cameron unknowingly killed one of the drunks and was sent to a federal penitentiary for involuntary manslaughter for ten years. During that time his daughter was born, but he waited patiently in his cell until his release date. He sent letters to his wife and daughter regularly. Seven years later, Cameron became eligible for parole and can now go home to his wife and daughter, Casey. He is scheduled to be flown back to Alabama on the same day as his daughter Casey's seventh birthday.


His transport home is the "Jailbird", a C-123 airplane, which also transporting a band of society's vicious convicts to Feltham Penitentiary, the toughest maximum-security prison in Louisiana. Along with Poe is fellow prisoner Mike "Baby-O" O'Dell and several other dangerous criminals in the country, including Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom (John Malkovich), Nathan "Diamond Dog" Jones (Ving Rhames), William "Billy Bedlam" Bedford (Nick Chinlund), Garland "The Marietta Mangler" Greene (Steve Buscemi), Joe "Pinball" Parker (Dave Chappelle), Johnny "Johnny-23" Baca (Danny Trejo), Ramon "Sally-Can't Dance" Martinez (Renoly Santiago) and the legendary criminal insane "Swamp Thing" (M.C. Gainey). The prisoners transfer is overseen by U.S. Marshall Vince Larkin (John Cusack).


At first, everything looks smooth but shortly after the flight takes off, a fight breaks out and two of the most dangerous convicts, "Diamond Dog" Jones and Cyrus "The Virus", break out from their restraints, quickly subdue the guards and take control of the plane. Cyrus "The Virus" organizes the other prisoners to prepare for a scheduled landing in Carson City in order to transfer some of the prisoners. He insures the prisoners transfer goes smoothly and the plane leaves Carson City without incident.


Cyrus next plan is re-routes the plane to the abandoned Lerner Airfield to catch another plane which will take them to a foreign country. The escape plan was set up by drug lord Francisco Cindino. He promised that once the prisoners land at Lerner Airfield, another plane will be waiting for them. And Cindino will help them gain asylum in a "non-extradition country".
