Pearl Harbor (2001)

Pearl Harbor is a drama movie set during the time of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor. Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) and Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett) are childhood best friends in America. They grow up wanting to fly planes. They are now serving as pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They both find themselves in love with the same woman, a dedicated U.S. Navy nurse Evelyn Johnson (Kate Beckinsale).


During World War II, Capt. Rafe McCawley is selected to go fight with the British Royal Air Force in Europe while America is still not at war. Meanwhile, Capt. Danny Walker and Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson are transferred to Pearl Harbor military base.


In Europe Rafe is shot down in an air combat and presumed killed. Danny and Evelyn are getting married but, Rafe turns up alive. On December 7, 1941 Japanese bombing to Pearl Harbor has changed all of their lives forever.

Gladiator (2000)

180 AD. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) is dying. Before die he wants to return his Roman Empire back to the Senate-based government. Although Emperor Marcus Aurelius has a son, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), he decides to appoint temporary leadership to General Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe). Commodus is very jealous with this decision. After murder the Emperor, Commodus declares himself as the new Roman Emperor.


Commodus asks Maximus for his loyalty but Maximus refuses. Commodus orders the Roman Armies to murder Maximus' wife and son and the entire family. Maximus escapes and races home but he is late. He discovers his family's death bodies hanged upside down in the ruins of his villa. After burying his wife and son, Maximus collapses because of exhaustion.


Slave traders’ convoy found Maximus and sells him to Proximo (Oliver Reed), the owner of a gladiator school in North Africa. Desperate because of the death of his family, Maximus refuses to fight. But later as he trains and fights further, the excellent combat skills plus the experience from many battles when he was General in Roman Army make his popularity rising among the fellow gladiators and the audience.


At the Colosseum in Rome, Commodus held the gladiator tournament. Maximus and the companies of gladiator from Proximo's school are participating. The final battle is between Maximus against Tigris of Gaul (Sven-Ole Thorsen), the Rome's only undefeated gladiator, in an arena surrounded by chained tigers. Maximus defeats Tigris in an intense battle and win the tournament.


After the fight, Maximus meets his former servant Cicero (Tommy Flanagan), who reveals that Maximus's elite army remains loyal to him. They are camped outside Rome and waiting for his order. Maximus plans to reunite with his army and overthrow Commodus. Commodus however reveals the plot and sending a legion of Praetorian Guards to destroy Proximo's gladiator barracks. Hagen (Ralf Moeller) and Proximo are killed in the siege while Juba (Djimon Hounsou) and the survivors are imprisoned.


Commodus challenges Maximus to a one-on-one duel in the Colosseum in front of Roman citizen.
Commodus stabs Maximus on the chest. The blade is piercing deep into his heart and puncturing his lung. The wound is bleeding beneath Maximus’ gladiator armor. He lost much blood. Maximus collapses and dies.

Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Saving Private Ryan, based on a World War II drama directed by Steven Spielberg, is the story about a company of U.S. Rangers who is sent on a risky rescue mission.


After returning from the D-Day battlefield, a tough Rangers Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) is sent back to the field on a new mission. The mission is finding the 82nd Airborne paratrooper Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) and brings him home safely. Ryan's three brothers have been killed in battlefield during the World War II and the U.S. government wants him returned to his family alive.


In this rescue mission, Capt. Miller leads a company of 8 elite Rangers consist of Himself, Sergeant Mike Horvath (Tom Sizemore), Private Richard Reiben (Edward Burns), Private Daniel Jackson (Barry Pepper), Private Stanley Mellish (Adam Goldberg), Private Adrian Caparzo (Vin Diesel), T-4 Medic Irwin Wade (Giovanni Ribisi) and the 8th person is Corporal Timothy P. Upham (Jeremy Davies), an interpreter officer who has no combat experience.

The mission is far from easy because after jumping down from their transport plane, all of the paratroops of the 82nd Airborne are landing scattered far in a wide area. During their mission locating the precise Ryan’s landing site, Capt. Miller's men are killed one by one in various incidents. But when they finally locate the paratroops of the 82nd Airborne, Pvt. Ryan refuses to leave his unit.


His squad of paratroops is tasked to defend a vital bridge, and Pvt. Ryan insists on doing just that. Capt. Miller and the surviving Rangers agree to help the paratroops, and in a climactic battle scene, together they manage to hold off a German massive attack. Capt. Miller and all his men are sacrificing their life to save Pvt. Ryan.


All of the battle sequences, the plot and the characters in Saving Private Ryan are amazing and realistic.

It won 5 Oscars and is rated R for intense prolonged realistically graphic sequences of war violence, and for language.

Enemy of the State (1998)

Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith) is a successful lawyer in Washington DC. He has a beautiful life with his wife (Regina King) and his son in a nice house located in Georgetown. One day accidentally he meets an old college friend in a store. Dean doesn’t know that his friend secretly drops a disc into his bag. After leaving the store, Dean sees that friend is killed in a traffic accident.


This morning Congressman Phillip Hammerson was killed by the National Security Agency agents in the park. The assassination was arranged by the NSA senior advisor Thomas Reynolds (Jon Voight). This murder was recorded on video by Dean’s friend. In no time, the NSA agents were breaking into his house to destroy this important evidence. So he tried to conceal the evidence by secretly slipped the disc into Dean’s bag before got killed by NSA agents.


Without realizing that the disc is containing important evidence of a congressman murder, Dean finds he becomes the target of the NSA. The NSA gets into his life. Dean's life begins to fall apart. He looses his job and his wife is gone. All of his accounts and assets are frozen. Dean wants to find out what is going on. The only man that can help him is Brill (Gene Hackman), a former government operative and an expert of surveillance system.

Ronin (1998)

Inside a warehouse in Paris, five men and a woman are seriously discussing a mission. They are Deirdre (Natascha McElhone), Sam (Robert De Niro), Vincent (Jean Reno), Spence (Sean Bean), Gregor (Stellan SkarsgÄrd) and Larry (Skipp Sudduth). These five men are all former Special Forces soldiers or intelligence operatives from different country. The team is planning to attack a convoy of heavily-armed vehicles outside Nice and steal a suitcase.


Deirdre’s superior, Seamus (Jonathan Pryce), warns that the team must move quickly to get the case before the Russian gangsters do. With no time, the team departs for Nice, observe the location and prepare for the ambush. When they successfully obtain the case through a gun battle, suddenly Gregor betrays the team and steals the case. Gregor leaves a fake case with bomb inside that explodes and seriously injuring Larry.


Gregor sells the case to the Russians gangsters and to the Irish gangsters. Meanwhile, the team track Gregor through Sam's CIA friend and corner him. In the gun fight, Gregor shots Sam, kills Larry and escapes with Deirdre and Seamus. Sam seriously wounded from the fight. Vincent takes him to his friend Jean-Pierre (Michael Lonsdale) to remove the bullet and allowing Sam to recuperate.


Vincent and Sam discover that the case is identical to Russian ice-skater case, who will perform a show at the local arena tonight. Vincent and Sam track to the arena where Mikhi the leader of the Russian gangsters trade for the case with Gregor. Mikhi has positioned a sniper somewhere in the arena that will shoot if Gregor is betrayed. Mikhi kills Gregor and leaves with the case and the money. The sniper shoots the ice-skater and the crowd. Vincent and Sam follow the panicked crowd out of the arena in time to see Seamus kills Mikhi and steals the case. Seamus wounds Sam and Vincent before escape with Deirdre in the getaway car.
